Confidence Breeds Innovation

Innovation

Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile — and within months others followed. Don Corsaro explores how confidence unlocks innovation, and why writing down your goals triggers a powerful process of Gravitation & Attraction.

It was May 6, 1954, and up until that morning no human in history had run a mile under four minutes. Many experts believed no human could do it — until Roger Bannister ran a record 3:59.4, changing history forever. Within just a few months, several other runners worldwide had accomplished the same feat.

How so quickly? One simple reason: because it had been done and proven attainable. Once the goal was shown to be achievable, the perception of impossibility disappeared and was replaced by confidence. Many times, limitations only exist in our minds.

In my first article on Leadership, I shared the example of the NASA Moon Landing project. President Kennedy set the vision before the American people when the U.S. didn't even have a rocket that could successfully get off the ground. With the vision set before them, average people began working for the same goal — and performing at genius levels with innovations far beyond their own expectations.

Gravitation & Attraction

I have developed a theory: once we write down our goal, it sets into motion a process I call "Gravitation & Attraction" (G&A). Writing down our goals takes them out of the nebulous realm of our mind onto paper. This action begins the G&A process that directs our very being and belief system down the path to attain — whether we are aware of it or not.

The adage "Success Breeds Success" is true. When we show passion for a vision, our very being naturally gravitates toward what we desire to achieve. This is why top achievers always say: write down your goals.

In conclusion: if you dare to dream, dream big. Never be afraid to try. Write it down, then take that first step — you may never know what events you might unleash for the future.
